Willie-Mae Green was born to Jack Dunn and Ursula Juanita Loftis of Wheelock, TX, in Robertson County on March 19, 1932. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age, attending New Hope Baptist Church in Wheelock, TX. She gained her wings on January 20, 2024.

Surrounded by a family and a village of strong believers, Willie-Mae and her brothers and sisters learned to cherish God’s word and to love their neighbors as themselves. What a time to be a child in the 1930s!

Education was extremely important to the family so Willie Mae and her siblings attended Wheelock Public Schools. She later graduated from E.A. Kemp High School in Bryan, Texas, of Brazos County. Later in her life, she completed some college hours, studying computer science.

She met and married Roland Green, the father of her three children. After the birth of her first daughter, Linda Ann Green, they moved out west to Abilene, TX to set up their home and work to raise their daughter. Two more daughters were born during this time: Shirley Darlene Green and Jacquelyn Eloise Green. The girls attended Woodson Elementary and Woodson High until 1966. Mae and her girls moved to Cisco, Texas where the girls attended junior college.

Willie Mae’s parents noticed her interest in playing the piano as a little girl so they purchased a piano for her to develop her skills. Her skillfulness increased rapidly with a few lessons. She would soon start playing for their church in Wheelock, TX. As she grew and moved away, God would open opportunities for her to play at the various churches she attended: Shiloh Baptist Church in Abilene, TX; Greater St. Mark Baptist Church in Cisco, TX, and finally, Bethel Baptist Church in Breckenridge, TX, where she worked as the musician for forty years.

Singing and playing the piano became a major part of her life. If she couldn’t go to church for whatever reason, she would send her girls. She worked at the Cisco Nursing Home as an aide, and eventually becoming the activity director. She often said that the people there were like family to her, so upon retirement, she became Eastland County’s Ombudsman – the Big Country Chapter. She also volunteered in the nursing homes in Cisco, Eastland, and Ranger. She and others brought food and God’s Word to Cisco Jr. College.

Willie Mae truly loved people and wanted to help wherever she could. Her life was one of service to all mankind.

Her daughter, Shirley, preceded her in death.

Willie Mae is survived by two daughters, Linda Ann and Jacquelyn; ten grandchildren, Philadelphia: Eboni, Josif, Latifah, Jabarri, Gyasi, Iman, and Sharifah from Philadelphia, Marcus, Christopher and Sydney from Texas; four great-grandchildren: Caprice, Justice, Aubrey and Justis, a host of other relatives and friends.
