Through a Daughter's Eyes As a little girl, I loved to see you coming, Your big smile, your infectious laugh, so stunning. The kisses, the hugs, the raspberries you'd give, Filling my world with the joy to live. But when my heart was full, as little hearts do, I'd run off to play, leaving love steeped in you. You never chased, you simply let me be, Secure in the bond only we could see. As a pre-teen, you opened a door, Stories of Vietnam, your time in the war. Without knowing, you gifted me peace, Explaining your absences, my fears released. Though time would pass and you'd be away, I never doubted your love each day. As a young adult, your letters would arrive, Birthday wishes, cards—proof love survives. No matter the miles, you always found me, A father's devotion crossing any sea. You taught me love isn't bound by place, It's in every word, every gesture, every embrace. I'm grateful, Daddy, that I could share My heart with you, laid it all bare. Telling you why, how much I cared, Each "I love you" our spirits paired. Now I sit in the silence you've left behind, One less soul in this world who loves me unblind. But Daddy, rest now, no tears for the fight, No shadows of war in your endless light. Rest in peace, my dear father, my friend, Your love, my compass, will never end. Love your daughter, Avian Milton
