Today we celebrate the life and homegoing of Tammie Denise James Sumter. Tammie was born on December 14, 1961, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Addie Mae Smith James. She was the youngest of three children. She attended and graduated from Hirschi High School where she was a cheerleader for the Hirschi Huskies. Tammie was also presented as a Debutante. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Wichita Falls, TX.

She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.

She later married Anthony Sumter while he was in the military at Fort Sill Army Base, Lawton, OK. He had three girls and two of them were twins. The oldest was name Aisha and the twins were Tarika and Trenesse. Thereafter, she and her family moved to Columbia, SC where she worked as a Tax Auditor for over 12 years. During her stay in Columbia, SC, she enjoyed traveling, attending annual family reunions, playing cards, planning cookouts and games. She was a people person with lots of laughter and joy.

In June 2024 Tammie moved to San Antonio, TX to live with her sister. She united with Covenant Community Church and attended events provided by the Senior Saints Ministry until she became ill and wasn’t able to attend.

She was preceded by her husband James Anthony Sumter and her mother Addie Mae Gordon.

She leaves to cherish her memories, sister, Linda and husband, Icy Lee, San Antonio, TX; brother, Van Benard James, Wichita Falls, Texas; stepdaughters; five grandchildren; sister-in law, Andrel Sumter; aunt Mystyen Davis all residing in Columbia, SC. uncle, Wade Smith and wife, Lola, Frederick, OK; aunt, Shirley Stevenson, Desota, TX; other family nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

    Cousin words seem inadequate for how much you filled my life. You were 2 hours away and we made the most of it. Our road trip to Family Reunion was priceless and so long going through all those states to Texas. Rest well Tammie you will never be forgotten
