Oscar was born the oldest of ten children to the parentage of the late Oscar Pope, Sr. and Archie Lee Pope on September 24,1945, in Calvert, Texas. He departed this life on Friday, May 31, 2024, at KPC Promise Hospital, Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of 78.

As a child he was baptized and united with Providence Baptist Church, Calvert, Texas. As an adult, Oscar united with Legacy Church of God under the leadership of Pastor John Gardner. He later united with Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the men's choir until his health started to fail.

Oscar graduated from W. D. Spigner High School, Calvert, Texas in 1963. He enlisted in the Army after graduating high school and served in Vietnam during the war. He was employed by the City of Wichita Falls for many years.

On July 2, 1965, Oscar married the love of his life, Mary Nell Workman. To this union, four children were born. They were married 47 years until her passing. Oscar later married Sammi Johnson and they were for married six years.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Pope, Sr. and Archie Lee Pope, wife Mary Nell Workman Pope, infant daughter, Gloria, granddaughter, Courtney Mechell and brother, Roy Pope.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memory children, Clifford Ray Pope, Casandra Diane Miller (Kenneth), Charles Leonard Pope (Sherrie), Anthony Wilson; six grandchildren including special grandson/son Charderius Pope (Kelsey); and eight great grandchildren; brothers, George Pope, Ernest Pope, Billy Pope (Martha); five sisters, Margaret Nell Pope, Canarie Pope, Mildred Pope, Joyce Davis (Chris) and Shelia Lollie (Claude); one uncle and three aunts, special friend Samuel McSwain and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
