Iva Jo Williams was born on June 7, 1941, to the late Marcellus and Corine Morton. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Dallas, TX. She attended Huston-Tillotson College (University) in Austin, TX. She later attended Prairie View University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She continued her college career and received her Master’s Degree from Ball State University in counseling. Following graduation, she was employed by Dallas ISD at Peace Elementary as a teacher.
Iva met and married the love of her life, Robert Williams, who was in the US Air Force and stationed at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX. To this union, two daughters were born, Jacqueline Elaine and Deborah Denise. Robert and Iva shared 59 joyous years of marriage with love, faith, and laughter. During her time in Wichita Falls, Iva was employed by WFISD. In 1967, the family moved to Dallas, TX while Robert served his country overseas.
Following Robert’s return from overseas, he continued to serve his country in Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Torrejon Air Force Base, Spain. The family’s final relocation was to Wichita Falls, TX where they would make it their home for many years. Iva’s career employments were Dallas Book Mobile, Teacher, and Librarian. After returning to Wichita Falls, Iva worked for WFISD as a Librarian for many years. She retired from WFISD with over thirty years of service.
Iva’s activities included attending church at SAFB Chapel Services, Life Member of Omicron Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Wichita Falls Area Retired Teachers Association where she was instrumental in organizing the Kindergarten Book Club (each Kindergarten student received a book at Christmas).
Iva had a smile that would light up any room she entered. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by parents Marcellus and Corine Morton; brothers, James E. Morton and Marcellus Morton; sisters, Linda D. Morton, Mary A. Morton, and Joycelyn R. Barrett.
Iva leaves to cherish her memories and legacy, husband, Robert; daughters, Elaine and Deborah Martin (John); sister, Shirley Jean Franks; three grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
