Hattie Mae Walker, affectionally known to many as “Nannaw”, transitioned from this life February 14, 2021 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Such a fitting day for the Lord and Hattie Mae to answer each other’s call to be their forever “Valentine”.
Hattie Mae was born May 6, 1927 to the late Curtis Henderson and Alberta Wesley (Henderson) in Chickasha, Oklahoma. The family relocated to Wichita Falls, Texas and it was here she received her education, worked, and reared her three children. Hattie Mae worked in private homes until her retirement.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized into the Church of Christ by her stepfather, Ulysses Wesley who was the minister of the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Wichita Falls, TX. Hattie Mae later placed membership with Eastside Church of Christ in Electra, TX and then with Welch Street Church of Christ where she served tirelessly and faithfully at all congregations. She taught Sunday School for all ages (K-12), Ladies Bible Class, Vacation Bible School and participated in many Ladies’ Day programs. She worked with and supported several ministries and committees behind the scenes. She loved traveling with the church to fellowships, Ladies’ Day Programs, and other activities held throughout Oklahoma and Texas. As she advanced in years, she became known as the Mother of the Church because of the encouragement and support she offered to many.
To those who truly knew and loved Hattie Mae (Nannaw), she will be remembered as a “hard fighting soldier” for the Lord, firm and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (to her own and those she loved as her own), faithful and loyal friend, loving Godmother, aunt and cousin. For 93 years she fussed, lived, loved, and definitely laughed – the makings of one wonderful lady.
Preceding Hattie Mae in death includes her parents, her 8 siblings, one son: Curtis B. Henderson, one granddaughter: Rhonda Armstead. Cherishing her memory include: Son, Lester Walker of Iowa Park, TX; daughter, Mildred Norford of Wichita Falls, TX; two granddaughters Shannon Norford of Wichita Falls and Shanna Cooper-Love of Fort Worth, TX; three great-grandchildren Jaelyn Norford-Williams, Elijah Williams and Madysen Gavilanes of Wichita Falls; aunt, Merlee Simmons of Denver, CO; Godson, Lexus Hill of Jonesboro, GA; two nephews she considered as sons, Ken (Sylvia) Estus of Wichita Falls, TX and Ron (Arlene) Estus of Gulfport, MS; many nieces, cousins, church families and friends. To God be the Glory for her time well spent with us.

So sorry for the loss of Sis Hattie. She was such a sweet woman of God. She was always smiling and greeted me with a warm hug each time I saw her. God bless her sweet soul. She will be greatly missed
