Dorothy Roberts Welburn was born on July 6, 1928, in Marshall, Texas, to George and Clyde Lucy Roberts. She peacefully departed this life on December 11, 2024, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Dorothy’s life was marked by a commitment to education and family. After graduating from Central High School in Marshall, she pursued higher education at Wiley College, also in Marshall, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She began her teaching career in Linden, Texas, and concluded a long and distinguished career as an educator in Wichita Falls, Texas. Her dedication to her students and her profession left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
In January 1947, Dorothy met the love of her life, Jim Welburn, at Wiley College. Their love story culminated in marriage on December 29, 1951. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure. To this union, one cherished daughter, Kathy, was born. Dorothy and her family shared a passion for travel, exploring a variety of exotic destinations, including Alaska, Germany, Switzerland, the Bahamas, Haiti, and other Caribbean islands. These travels brought them joy and unforgettable memories.
Dorothy had a zest for life and a variety of interests that brought her happiness and fulfillment. She was an avid bridge player who delighted in lively games with her friends. She had a passion for word search puzzles, always finding joy in solving them from books and newspapers. A self-taught seamstress, Dorothy’s creativity and skill shone in the designer pieces she lovingly created for her daughter during her high school years.
For over 50 years, Dorothy was a devoted member of Gilbert Memorial CME Church, where she found spiritual fulfillment and community. Her faith sustained her throughout her life until her health no longer allowed her active participation.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, grandparents, parents, and all of her siblings.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her beloved daughter, Kathy, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Dorothy Roberts Welburn will be remembered for her grace, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She leaves behind a rich legacy of memories, inspiration, and love.

Mrs. Welburn was light shining bright for all the world to see. She walked in the power and the authority of GOD as an anointed and appointed Mother of Zion. She spoke clarity, wisdom, direction and correction in love when I needed it. Cathy I love you and thank GOD upon every remembrance of you ❤️. I am praying your strength in the indefatigable name of JESUS, who is the Christ the Son of the living GOD. Much love, Connie Newsome

Gary and Linda Cook and family
Kathy, Your parents quickly became precious friends. They were always fun, examples of compatibility, and absolutely elegant in carriage, appearance and behavior. I have always known how proud they were of you, how important your family church and friends were to them, and how dedicated they were to the betterment of our community and our world. Our children adored them. Cara learned to care for and train her multiple pets under Jim's guidance. Their examples of positivity , perseverance and genuine joy to share were such blessings to all of us. They clearly have passed all of their best traits to you. Thank you for including us in your life. Linda and Gary
