Deborah Shelton Reed made her transition on June 16, 2020 in Wichita Falls surrounded by her children. She was born October 4, 1928 to the late Willie Rurie and Samantha Shelton in Unionville, Louisiana. She attended Grambling Demonstration Elementary and High School. She received her B.S. Degree from Grambling College in Education. Mrs. Reed attended Tuskegee Institute and received her Special Education Certification from Midwestern State University. She married David C. Reed. Seven children were born to this union and she raised one foster child. She taught school in Louisiana, on the Navaho Reservation and 23 years in WFISD. She also worked as a motel housekeeper, and Administrator of Cottonwood Manor. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, St. Matthew B.C, and later Mt. Calvary (Mt. Calvary Falls Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a member of American Association of University Women, Life member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, Wichita Falls Retired Teachers Association, Eastside YMCA, NAACP, and AARP. She was presided in death by her parents, husband, David, two sons, Caesar Wayne and Theodore Maceo, two brothers, Wince May and Jodie Shelton. Her legacy is left with daughters, Rosie (Roosevelt) Flanigan, Daisy Patrick of Wichita Falls, and Carrie DeVaughn of Los Angeles, California, sons, Talmadge and Renneth (Kim) Reed of Wichita Falls a brother, a sister., 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great children and many other relatives and friends.

Sue Winchester, Dana Winchester. and I cherish our memories of Deborah being foster mother to Jean. Her help to all students at Regional Day School were immense. We are grateful for the life she lived and the blessings she shared with all of us.
