Bessie Louise Pride Hill was born on April 23,1931 in Calvert, Texas to Katie Giddings and Daniel Pride Sr. Bessie grew up in Calvert, Texas where she attended Calvert Colored High School.

She united with St. Paul Baptist Church in Calvert, Texas at an early age and later established her membership with Saint John Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas after moving here to help her sister, Rosie.

At Saint John, she served as a humble and modest servant of the Lord in several capacities, the Deaconess Ministry as well as with her mission sisters in the Rachel Circle, participating in the choir, dining service, and the sick visitation ministry along with her husband until their health decline.

Preceding her in death were husband, Curtis Hill Jr. in 2009; father, Daniel Pride; mother, Katie Pride; sister, Willie Mae Merritt; brothers, Daniel Pride Jr., Preston Pride, Ervin Pride, and John Pride Sr. along with her grandson, Bobby Ray Pride and daughter, Katie Davis.

Bessie is survived by her sons, Rev. Bobby
(Dolly) Pride of Calvert, Texas, Lonnie (Easter) Davis of Dallas, Texas, and Michael Davis of Wichita Falls, Texas; daughter, Lori Pride of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Eric Davis of Dallas, Texas whom she raised. Along with Eric there are nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; a host of in laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives along with her extended family at Saint John Baptist Church especially Mrs. Jessie Johnson and her coworkers of Luby’s.
