Bernice Smith Woods gained her wings on January 2, 2025 in Killeen, Texas. Bernice Woods was born on November 5, 1949 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the
parents of Ed and Hazel Williams.

Bernice had the pleasure of being married to two loving husbands, in passing, Joseph Gene Smith and life long husband, Riley Woods. Bernice has three beautiful children, Delena Allen, Joseph Gene Smith, Jr., and Leatha Smith.

Bernice attended Washington School from 1956-1957 and later, Booker T. Washington High School,
graduating in the class of 1968. She traveled many cities while married to her military husband Joseph Smith. She returned home, stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base.

Bernice did over 30 plus years as a nurse and retired as a home health nurse. She didn’t stop there as she wore many hats. The greatest was serving the Lord at Jackson Memorial COGIC. She was given the title of Missionary while serving at Jackson Memorial. She spoke at many churches. She served as Church
Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Church Secretary and Treasurer. Bernice also had the honor of assisting Dr. Mattie Moss Clark direct the COGIC Mass Choir at conventions.

She continued helping people even having some live with her. She never complained even when she wasn’t at her best. Serving others was her gift and she used it gracefully.

Preceding her in death are parents, Ed and Hazel Williams; husband, Riley Woods; brothers, Edward Lee, Samuel, Kenneth Ray, Billy Earl and Terry Lynn; most recently grandson, Justice Smith.

Bernice leaves to carry on her wisdom, legacy and memories, children, Delena, Joseph, and Leatha; grandchildren, Antoinette, Candice, Dorian and Darian, Joseph II, Jalen, Coby, T.J. Coulter and Catlyn; many great-grandchildren and one great-great
grandchild; siblings, Maurice Williams, Diane Walker, and Gerry Williams; a long time sister and friend Debra Moore; a host of loving families and friends.
